What was your fitness background before CrossFit?
Highschool sports, globo gym life :(

 
How long have you been doing CrossFit? What was your first WOD, do you remember? 
I've been doing crossfit for about 15 months now and I'm addicted! My first WOD was a blur but I know it consisted of pull-ups (which I still hate to this day). I remember saying "ok, I dont want to continue because I'm holding up the class" and Ashley replied "You're not holding anyone up, just finish the workout". At this moment I knew that my fitness depended on MYSELF and nobody else.

How has CrossFit changed your life? 
How has it imporved your mental and/or physical wellbeing? 
Crossfit has taught me that I'm WAY stronger than I ever thought I was. Now, I see every day as a chance to be better than I was the day before. Mentally, Crossfit has given me confidence and stamina. I'm no longer self-conscious of how I look, but I'm PROUD of what I look like. Before I started Crossfit, I had zero self-esteem and I hated my body. Throughout my Crossfit journey, I have had serious ups and downs with how I view myself, but just recently I had learned to LOVE my body. Although I have gained weight since doing Crossfit, I've gained it in a whole bunch of GOOD places and I know that the majority of it is muscle. All of my clothes fit better than they have before and I rock leggings like nobody's business. All in all, I'm so proud of my abilities and when people say "wow, you're so strong" I see it as the biggest compliment. Of course there are people who question why I do Crossfit and ask "don't you think it makes you look too big and manly?". To that I say: I don't care how "big" I get, I want to be competent and able.


What are your goals in the next 3-6 months? 
In the next 3-6 months, I want to get stronger in my gymnastic skills. I would like to accomplish pull-ups and handstand push-ups. I would also like to keep getting stronger with my lifts. By the end of my school year, I would like to leave with a solid foundation of the gymnastic skills so I can go back to my hometown Crossfit gym with even more confidence.


What do you love about CrossFit St. Catharines? Share one of your favourite moments with us. 
Crossfit St. Catharines has given me friends that I never thought I would make. Moving to St. Catharines for school, I felt like something was missing...I wanted to find my "thing" that I loved. When I stumbled upon CFSTC, I knew I had to keep at it. The people and coaches are SO great and welcome me every single day. Their encouragement is what keeps me going through workouts and I can honestly say that I have made not only great friends, but a family as well. My favourite moment has got to be the Friday Night LIghts during the Crossfit Open where we all cheer each other on. There is a serious camaraderie among us and it's truly inspiring :)
