Walk Like a Champion.

Posted Apr 14th, 2014 in Blog, General

Well as most of you hopefully know by now we had quite the showing at the Compwod team competition at CrossFit Cordis this past weekend.  We had Ashley and Justin compete in the Elite division on Saturday, Wendy and Frank in the masters division on Sunday and Jamie and Charles compete in the Badass division also on Sunday.

If you’ve read the Facebook posts and Ashley’s blog post you already know all the details and who placed where.  I’d just like to say as an owner, I can’t express in words the pride I get when I see athletes from our gym train their asses off and then have the courage to go and compete.  I hope that more of you guys will choose to do so in the future.

The one thing that stood out to me most and was a topic of conversation between the coach’s over the weekend was not about the workouts themselves but more about the athletes. It seems like you have two choices when you go to a competition.  You can either ignore the other athletes and treat them as the enemy, or you can have fun, hang out with old friends and make some new ones.  I’m happy to say all of our athletes chose the latter.  We saw a lot of questionable stuff going on when it came to proper technique and movement standards being sacrificed for the sake of a faster time or more reps and I’m so proud of our athletes for staying true and doing things the right way.  It’s very easy to get caught up in winning and cut corners.  It takes a lot of character to not cheat when you see others getting away with it.  Just because you win, it doesn’t make you a champion.

A champion is someone who works hard every time they step into the gym.  A champion is the person who always does what they know to be right even if it’s not the easy choice.  A champion loses gracefully and wins with humility.  Congratulations to all of our athletes and their partners, by Sunday evening, you were all champions.
